Are LED lights safe for human eyes

Posted on 2025-05-30, in Blog

Low quality LED lighting products or improper use may lead to issues such as visual fatigue and dry eye syndrome.

Normal use of LED lights that meet international standards (with qualified LED lenses), blue light and flicker are within safe limits and will not directly damage vision!

What is the healthiest lighting for the eyes?

Research has shown that the factors that affect human eye health through lighting mainly include three categories:

  1. Blue light: The blue light component present in the light spectrum of LED lighting may inhibit the secretion of melatonin and affect human sleep.
  2. Strobe: Poor quality LEDs may cause rapid flickering (PWM dimming), which can lead to eye fatigue and damage.
  3. Color rendering: LEDs with low color rendering will reduce lighting quality and result in poor realism of objects.

For the healthiest lighting for the human eye, excellent LEDs need to ensure that long wave blue light is in the range of 460-500nm, flicker ≥ 1250Hz, and color rendering (CRI) ≥ 90

And lenses may help LEDs optimize these parameters, such as suitable lenses that can filter/diffuse blue light, homogenize PWM fluctuations, and fill in spectral gaps.

Asahi's LED lens products also come with various parameters and brief descriptions, providing a one-stop solution to the three core issues of healthy lighting!

From this, we can conclude that responsible design and LED itself are safe for the human eye.
